I joined College Coach after many years in independent school and college admissions. Over the course of a decade, I worked in admissions at three independent schools in the Boston area. Later, I earned my master’s degree in education while working part-time in MIT’s undergraduate admissions office.
After graduating, I spent a year as an outside reader reviewing hundreds of applications for the University of Virginia, where I read applications for all majors within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Most recently, I worked in the undergraduate admissions office at Brandeis University, where I managed first-year and transfer selection processes, athletic recruitment, and awarding fellowships and merit aid. In addition, I volunteered annually with Scholar Match, guiding high school students through the college application process. Through this work I learned to meet each student where they are in the college search process and provide clear guidance and support.
My daughter got into her top choice. The coach provided critical input on the essay, and had my daughter adapt what had been intended as a supplemental as her main essay.
I’m a big fan of anything that brings people together for a little friendly competition: board games, card games, cornhole, trivia nights, you name it! My family even hosts an annual Texas Hold ’Em tournament with about 40 players, and I’m proud to say I’ve taken home the bragging rights a few times!
When I’m not playing games, you’ll probably find me exploring new places, meeting new people, and sampling local foods. Travel is one of my favorite ways to learn and connect. One highlight was riding a camel across the Sahara Desert!
I’m also an avid reader (the librarians at my local library know me by name). I read across all genres, and one of my recent favorites is Gather by Kenneth Cadow, a beautifully written young adult novel that I highly recommend.
