I began my career in college admissions at my alma mater, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where I worked with students applying into the College of Education and Human Development. I connected students with the Big Ten, flagship university experience, reviewed college and honors applications, awarded scholarships, and made admissions decisions.
Later, I moved across the country from Minnesota to California to launch UMN–Twin Cities’ first regional admissions position, supporting California and West Coast families exploring out-of-state college options. During this time, I became an active member of the Regional Admissions Counselors of California (RACC), an organization dedicated to expanding college access and awareness for West Coast families.
From there, I helped establish Augustana College’s first regional admissions presence on the West Coast, connecting California students with a small liberal arts experience in Illinois. I then transitioned to the University of San Diego, where I guided students through international study opportunities, helping them find programs that aligned with their academic goals and personal identities. This work deepened my commitment to fostering cross-cultural exchange and global citizenship.
[Our counselor] was so easy for my student to work with. [They] made her feel like she had possibilities and was excited about the steps required instead of overwhelmed.
As a middle child, I was the peacekeeper and bridge between my siblings, so I've always been naturally inclined to be the "helper.” At first, I thought that meant following my parents into the medical field, but in college I realized there are many ways to make a difference. When an opportunity presented itself to pursue a career in education, it seemed like a natural fit to help students find their own pathways through the college admissions process.
My admissions work has allowed me to connect with families, school counselors, and colleagues across the country and beyond. Here at College Coach, I love getting to know students, uncovering what makes them unique, and helping them translate those strengths into a college experience that fosters growth and self-discovery.
